Literature and society share an indispensable and unbreakable bond with each other. Writers like every other common man have a typical social, political, economical, cultural, religious background. Socio-cultural norms, religio-ethnic practices, political loyalties, and economic conditions leave an indelible impression on personality as well as on the writings of an author. Literature written in English language is not an exception. All English poets, novelists, playwrights and critics are essentially the product of their own time. They express their anger, pleasures, indignation and awe over the contemporary events or happenings. In fact, literature is the pillar for the sustenance of any civilization. The present paper is a reflective and critical attempt to analyze the journey of English language literature in perfect co-relation with the social human history.
