Abstract

Facial expression perception (FEO) is a new and important area of study in the field of pattern recognition. In surveillance films, expression assessment, recognition of gestures, smart homes, video games, stress treatment, tracking patients, treatment for depression, the psychoanalytic paralinguistic interactions, operator tiredness detection, and robotics, facial emotion analysis is effectively applied. In this essay, we provide a thorough analysis of FEP. This overview is based on several deep learning (DL) techniques as well as traditional machine learning (ML) methods. The goal of this study is to emphasize the potential research gap in this field for new researchers by providing a comprehensive evaluation of FEO utilizing conventional ML and DL approaches.
